Pumpkin decorating is a tradition in my family. Ever since I can remember, October has meant a trip to the pumpkin patch, a night carving (or painting) a pumpkin, and the excitement of seeing the completed project on the porch. The fond autumn memories I have make it something I wanted to ensure my children get to experience, too.
We recently decorated this year’s pumpkins, and were excited to welcome our 16-month-old into the mix. Right before his evening bath, we set him in front of a plate of paint and gave him a pumpkin. He went to town. And by “went to town,” I mean he literally slapped the pumpkin over and over again while squealing in delight.
After the little guy went to bed, Byron and I had a pumpkin-filled “date night” of sorts. We ate pumpkin cookies, lit a pumpkin candle, and mixed together a delicious pumpkin cocktail (recipe below) – all while painting our creations.
Here are the finished products:
And don’t forget to check back later this week for a video tutorial on how to make this fun, melted crayon pumpkin:
Until then, enjoy this recipe for an easy and delicious fall cocktail. And for those who don’t wish to enjoy the adult version of this drink, there’s a non-alcoholic recipe as well.
What do your pumpkins look like this year?
